The AVEMPACE Project

The AVEMPACE project, in accordance with the overall Erasmus Mundus Action 2 Strand 5 and the EU External Policy Objectives, aims to:

  • To enhance the international cooperation capacity of universities in Third-countries by facilitating transfer of know-how and good practices in the field of student and academic staff mobility.
  • To promote cooperation between sending and hosting institutions: All consortium institutions.
  • To enable students to benefit linguistically, culturally and educationally from the experience of pursuing academic studies in another country.
  • To improve the transparency and recognition of studies and qualifications.
  • To contribute to provide good students from vulnerable groups with further education and professional development and empowerment for leadership.
  • To enhance the skills and qualifications of foreign higher education staff.
  • To build the capacity of the administration and public and private sector by participation of their staff in higher education mobility activities.
  • To enhance in the medium term the political, cultural, educational and economical links between the European Union and Third-countries.

TU Berlin was granted the AVEMPACE project through the Erasmus Mundus Action 2 Strand 5 programme. This action aims at fostering structured cooperation between European and Third Country Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) through the promotion of mobility at all levels. The AVEMPACE project offers scholarships for Undergraduate, Master Students, Doctoral Candidates, Researchers, Academic and Administrative Staff through funding from the European Commission.

The project aims at enhancing the academic cooperation between European and Jordanian as well as Syrian universities by bringing together students and staff as well as young and senior researchers involved in the same disciplines or forming multidisciplinary teams to cover research domains identified by the Jordanian and Syrian universities as "priorities". The organisation of the mobility activities supported by the project will be a step toward the creation of more co-diplomas and co-thesis with stronger exchanges between PhD students from both EU and the Arab side, especially around the disciplines and themes which of interest for Jordanian, Syrian and European universities.

Another very important objective of this project concerns the sharing of best practices between the participants' staff, in the field of "university governance" and in the implementation of the Bologna process. This project has planned some mobility activities for training the academic and administrative staff toward better "University governance". The project will be therefore organized and managed to have structuring effects within Higher Education institutions and to build sustainable synergies. This action will have long term impact upon the harmonization of Higher Education systems in Jordan, Syria and the EU, thus decreasing the gap existing between the institutions of both sides and contributing to the recognition of the degrees delivered in Jordanian and Syrian HEIs at international level. The AVEMPACE project can be viewed as a step towards the creation of a "Euro-Mediterranean Higher Education Area" aiming, along the lines of the Barcelona Declaration, at bringing stronger multiple cooperation between European Universities and Universities from Jordan and Syria.
