Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) ranks number one among all technical universities in Poland. It is also one of the oldest Polish HEIs (founded in 1826). It is internationally recognized with over 32,000 students (both, native and international), and more than 2,500 academic staff, including scientists and lecturers from world’s leading universities. Faculty Councils award approximately 200 Ph.D. and 30 Associate Professor degrees every year. WUT has also been awarded the title of one of three “most pro-Ph.D. student universities in Poland”.
WUT conducts studies at 20 Faculties, which offer a wide selection of technical courses and programmes, ranging from mathematics and computer science through biotechnology, robotics, mechanics and environmental engineering to applied chemistry and aeronautics, as well as non-technical programmes such as business management, administration and social sciences. The language of instruction is both, Polish and English. All together WUT offers 70 undergraduate, 82 graduate and 30 Ph.D. programmes in 63 fields of study.
Warsaw University of Technology can also boast a wide experience in the management of international exchange programs for students, researchers as well as academic and administrative staff. WUT has been participating in such mobility programs as LLP Erasmus, Erasmus Mundus, LLP Leonardo da Vinci, TEMPUS, ATHENS, EU-ICI-ECP-EUKLA (programme with Ko-rea), EU-Canada and bilateral exchange.
WUT’s priority is an interdisciplinary study programme supported by an advanced scientific research. Modern study programmes and an extensive range of scientific and research work, including partnerships with many universities, research institutions and high-tech industries guarantee that our graduates are well prepared to succeed in the labour market worldwide. In re-sponse to market demands, Warsaw University of Technology offers a broad range of professional and technological pro-grammes which prepare students for their future careers. The University authorities and the entire academic staff do their best to acquaint their students with up-to-date knowledge and skills useful in today’s world.
Research at WUT is undertaken in theoretical and applied sciences, within all of its organizational units, and also in especially- tailored Research Centers, such as e.g.: CEZAMAT – the Centre of Advanced Materials and Technologies; CePT – the Centre of Preclinical Research and Technology with more than 120 research projects conducted in the fields of: nanotechnology, molecular biotechnology, neurobiology, genomics, biomedical engineering, pharmacology, but also Research Centre for Functional Materials, Research Centre for Sustainable Energy Systems and Research Centre for Energy & Environmental Engineering. Research is run in the following areas: Computer Science, ICT, Telecommunications, Automatics and Robotics, Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources, Energy Saving and Storage, Nuclear Energy, Environmental Engineering, Aviation and Transport, Space Research, Chemical Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Biomedical Engineering, Microelectronics and Nanotechnologies, Functional Materials. Research activities conducted at the Warsaw University of Technology are mostly financed from the resources granted by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the European Union (FP6 and FP7), University’s own resources and agreements with the industry and local authorities.
